To achieve this, Majarlin facilitates the delivery of high-quality Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health clinical education and professional support.
About the role
The Laboratory Coordinator supports academic and professional staff by delivering efficient, high‑quality, and compliant laboratory services across Majarlin, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, VET programs, and approved external partners. This role oversees daily laboratory operations, ensuring facilities are maintained safely and in line with university policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage day‑to‑day operations of teaching laboratories, including coordinating laboratory support staff to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Prepare, set up, and pack down laboratories and teaching spaces, ensuring resources are ready to support practical learning within the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
- Oversee the procurement, preparation, availability, and stock control of laboratory equipment, consumables, and teaching materials, initiating purchases in line with budgets and procedures.
- Contribute to planning, scheduling, and timetabling of laboratory‑based teaching programs in collaboration with academic staff, while providing technical advice, guidance, and safe demonstrations to staff and students.
- Support practical teaching activities by preparing materials and equipment, performing routine maintenance and servicing of laboratory facilities, and escalating issues requiring specialist attention.
- Manage laboratory inventory, equipment loans, hazardous substance handling and disposal, and maintain safety documentation, ensuring all operations comply with WHS, legislative, regulatory, and University requirements.
Qualifications, skills & experience
- A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
- Proven experience in a nursing laboratory and/or simulated learning environment, with an understanding of contemporary practices in simulated learning and/or teaching laboratories for developing clinical nursing and midwifery skills.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, work constructively with stakeholders and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational, coordination and time‑management abilities, including managing competing priorities and providing responsive operational support across varied teaching activities.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing, demonstrating and ensuring the safe use of laboratory and/or simulation equipment within a learning and teaching context, along with capability in equipment and asset management, servicing and accurate record keeping.
- Well‑developed administrative skills, high attention to detail, strong digital literacy (including Microsoft Office and student or learning support systems), and the ability to quickly learn new technologies while collaborating effectively across functional areas.
